About Tangem
Tangem Wallet is a modern hardware wallet designed to make cryptocurrency security simple, portable, and accessible. Unlike traditional hardware wallets that rely on USB devices or screens, Tangem uses ultra-thin NFC cards that allow users to access their wallet by simply tapping the card against a smartphone.
Founded with the goal of simplifying self custody, Tangem focuses on combining strong cryptographic security with a streamlined user experience. The result is a wallet that removes many of the barriers that prevent people from securing their digital assets while still maintaining high levels of protection.
Tangem wallets are designed for everyday usability without compromising security, offering a cold storage solution that is as convenient as carrying a bank card.
Tangem vs Traditional Hardware Wallets
Many people entering the cryptocurrency ecosystem find hardware wallets intimidating due to technical setup processes and the responsibility of safely storing recovery phrases. Tangem addresses these concerns by introducing a more intuitive approach that combines hardware security with everyday usability.
By replacing cables, batteries, and complex device interfaces with a simple NFC card, Tangem aims to make secure self custody accessible to a wider audience.

FAQ About Tangem
What makes a Tangem wallet different from other cold wallets?
Your hardware wallet is always with you and doesn't need charging or wires. It fits easily in your pocket, so you can sign your transactions anywhere. Tangem's EAL6+ certification means it's as secure as a biometric passport.
What’s the difference between a 2-card and a 3-card set?
A 3-card set improves recovery options. If one card is lost, the other two can ensure access. However, with only two cards, losing one and forgetting your access code would leave you unable to reset or recover your wallet.
Does my hardware wallet depend on Tangem's servers?
We designed your hardware wallet to be fully autonomous, no Tangem servers are involved in your crypto transactions. You need only your card/ring, smartphone, and the blockchain.
If my Tangem is stolen, can a third party access my hardware wallet?
No. An access code protects the wallet against unauthorised access by third parties and brute-force attacks.
Can I use a seed phrase in the wallet?
Using a seed phrase is optional. There are three key generation methods:
1. Use the certified hardware True Random Number Generator (TRNG) that generates and stores keys inside the chip. No copies exist outside your Tangem device (recommended).
2. Generate a seed phrase with the Tangem app and import it to the hardware device.
3. Import your seed phrase from another crypto wallet. Note that seed phrases can be copied and stolen, unlike private keys generated offline.
Will I lose access to my funds if my phone is lost or broken?
You won't lose access to your funds. Use your card or ring on any compatible smartphone to download the Tangem app and access your portfolio. Remember, your phone doesn't store sensitive information; it’s just a display for easy access.
